DIY Musical Instruments: Release The Inner Artist

Posted by Emma Bennett on

Do you want to introduce your children to the magical world of music but don't want to break the bank? We've got you covered. In this post, we'll explore creative ways to use household items for musical activities with your kids.

Getting your kids involved in making their own musical instruments is a great way to spark their creativity and introduce them to the world of music. Here are some ideas for DIY musical instruments:

1. Tin Can Drums

Take empty tin cans and turn them into drums. Simply remove the lid and cover the top with a piece of tissue paper or fabric. Then, use rubber bands to hold the fabric in place. Use chopsticks or pencils as drumsticks.

2. Bottle Maracas

Fill empty plastic bottles with dry beans or rice and seal the cap shut with glue or tape. Decorate the outside with stickers or paint and shake away to make some great maracas!

3. Rubber Band Guitar

Use a tissue box or a wooden box and place rubber bands around it. Then, pluck the rubber bands with your fingers to make music. You can even decorate the box to make it look like a real guitar.

4. Cardboard Piano

Use cardboard boxes to create your own piano. Cut out keys and decorate them with paint or markers. Then, place them on the cardboard box. Use pencils or chopsticks to press the keys and make some beautiful tunes.

Family Music Time

Now that you've made some great DIY musical instruments, it's time to get the whole family involved in some music time. Here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Jam Session

Get everyone together with their instruments and have a family jam session. Encourage everyone to play their instruments and make some beautiful music together.

2. Create a Song

Get creative and write a song as a family. Encourage everyone to contribute lyrics or musical ideas. Use your DIY musical instruments to create the music for your song.

3. Dance Party

Turn up the music and have a family dance party. Use your DIY musical instruments to add some extra beats and rhythms to your dance party.

There are so many creative ways to use household items for musical activities with your kids. Not only is it a great way to introduce them to music, but it's also a fun way to spend time together.
